Season of Lent
Six weeks of preparation for Easter.
Lent is a penitential season, meaning that Christians take extra time to:
~ Pray ~ Fast (go without something) ~
Give (money for good causes) ~
At Buckland we have some extra services to
help us better align our lives with God and other people.
Ash Wednesday Wed 22nd February 7pm in St Nicholas
The first day of Lent with an evening mass at St Nicholas at 7pm.
The service includes the traditional ashing - the making of the sign of the cross
on the forehead
with the ashes of burnt Palm crosses.
NB There is no Open Church at St Nicholas on Ash Wednesday.
Stations of the Cross Fridays 6pm in St Andrew's
Every Friday throughout Lent starting on Fri 24th Feb at 6pm in St Andrew's.
The service follows the traditional journey Jesus made from his
sentence of death to his interment in the tomb.
There are fourteen 'stations' which are marked by pictures around the walls of
the church. At each we stop at each for prayer and reflection.
The service lasts about half an hour and is good for adults and children.
Lent Group Fridays 7pm in the Rectory
Every Friday throughout Lent starting on Fri 24th Feb (after Stations of the Cross)
there is a Bible Study group with a soup and roll meal at 7pm in the Rectory.
The group will follow the Canterbury Diocese Finding Welcome study course
and all are warmly invited.
