CHURCH FUNERAL

Taking the coffin from the hearse

Walking towards the Church

Entering the Church

Sprinkling weith holy water

Committing the soul to God

When the funeral service is in church, the coffin is taken from the hearse at the lychgate. The priest leads the funeral director and coffin bearers, followed by family and friends into the Church. The coffin is laid to rest on special stands.

Usually the coffin carries flowers or other momentos to celebrate the life of the loved one. (In the picture, of course, the coffin is empty!)

The funeral service includes songs, prayers and a Eulogy (an account of the person's life written by the family). The service ends with the priest sprinkling the coffin with holy water as a sign of God's love and care for the one who has died.

The coffin is then taken to the Crematorium or Cemetery for the Commital.

If there is no service in church, the whole service takes place in the Cremtorium.
